To whom it may concern:

Tom Sgouros recently performed his one-man show, "Judy, or What Is It Like To Be A Puppet?" at Carnegie Mellon University. As Co-Director of our Entertainment Technology Center, I was his host. The show itself is rather unique; Mr. Sgouros performs with a robotic character he has created. The show was extremely successful at Carnegie Mellon, and I think it would succeed at any university where the students are interested in intellectually deep questions being presented in a very unique way. This show addresses issues including self-determination, free will, recursion, and many others, in a light-hearted way that makes the audience think hard for a few hours after the show. This is an extremely good thing.

I would recommend that any college or university consider hosting this show. It is important to advertise it broadly; the students who are interested in it will come from many different disciplines. I also found Tom Sgouros to be an extremely professional performer, readily putting up with several logistical problems during his visit here. Our students also enjoyed some informal time spent with him, which I would also encourage another school to arrange during his visit.

In short, we were very glad to have invited him here, and I would highly encourage another school to invite him as well. The show is very, very good.

Sincerely,
